Soft Circuit Embroidery

Last weekend at Maker Faire, I finally got to meet Becky Stern, an embroidery innovator who mixes conductive threads and circuitry into her work. From her site:

I've been working with Leah Buechley's LilyPad Arduino, and in true embroidery sampler fashion, have composed this circuit to see what I could do. The embroidery uses traditional floss and techniques mixed with lights and sounds generated by the onboard software. The amount of light sensed by the sensor changes the speed and pitch of the lights and sounds generated. Move your shadow or hand over it to experience the changes.

Way Down in New Orleans - Group Show

After a lengthy, and much-needed hiatus, I'm back. But, I nearly forgot to tell you about this show: Way Down in New Orleans in Washington D.C. at Civilian Art Projects. The exhibition will be hanging through this Saturday, October 11. La Llorona (shown above- click to enlarge) is included. 20% of sales to benefit the New Orleans Kid Camera Project. This show was curated by Aubrey Edwards, who is also a great editorial photographer, who photographed me for my interview in Juxtapoz magazine last year.
